Fisher Space Pen 400-RAW – an antibacterial space pen made from raw brass
The Fisher Space Pen 400 series is the brand’s first model and remains its most sought-after product. The 400-RAW model is a compact pen made from 85% copper alloy and 15% zinc alloy. It is precisely this combination that provides strong antibacterial properties and protection against microbes.
The barrel is made of raw brass with a natural patina that deepens with time and use. The pen comes without a clip – this can be purchased separately.

History of the Fisher Space Pen
During the early NASA missions, astronauts used pencils. For the Gemini project in 1965, NASA purchased 34 mechanical pencils at a total cost of $4,382.50 – around $128.89 each. This sparked widespread public outrage.
Paul S. Fisher of Fisher Pen Co. developed a pen that worked reliably in the unique environment of space. The new pressurised ink cartridge functioned in zero gravity, underwater and at extreme temperatures. Fisher invested around $1 million of the company’s own funds in the development, without any funding from NASA.
In 1967, following rigorous testing, NASA agreed to equip the Apollo programme’s astronauts with these pens. Around 400 were purchased at a price of $6 each. In February 1969, the Soviet Union also purchased 100 pens and 1,000 refills for use on the Soyuz missions. To this day, American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts continue to use the Fisher Space Pen.
