Why the Fisher Space Pen writes where others fail
The cartridge contains a pressurised nitrogen gas cartridge. A small metal cylinder pushes the special ink, which is hermetically sealed.
The ink is thixotropic β it is solid in its normal state and only liquefies when writing. It does not skip or leak. It writes up to three times longer than ordinary ink.
Reliability in all conditions
The pen performs reliably under:
- Extreme temperatures: from -34Β°C to +120Β°C
- Writing underwater
- Zero gravity
- Any writing angle
Its compact size makes it easy to store in a wallet or organiser. The clip allows it to be attached to a pocket or rucksack.

Suitable for: teachers, doctors, lawyers, politicians, military personnel, police officers, business leaders and school leavers. Itβs also great as an everyday pen to keep in the car or handbag β it doesnβt freeze in winter or leak in summer.
The pen is also ideal for camping, climbing, hiking, skiing, cycling, fishing, snowboarding, hunting, kayaking and diving.
The history of the Fisher Space Pen β from NASA to everyday life
During the early NASA missions, astronauts used pencils. For the Gemini project in 1965, NASA purchased 34 mechanical pencils at a total cost of $4,382.50 β around $128.89 each. This caused public outcry.
Paul S. Fisher of Fisher Pen Co. developed a ballpoint pen suitable for the space environment without funding from NASA. The company invested around $1 million of its own funds. The product was patented and launched on the market.
In 1967, following rigorous testing, NASA equipped the Apollo astronauts with these pens. Around 400 were purchased at a price of $6 each. In February 1969, the Soviet Union also purchased 100 pens and 1,000 refills for the Soyuz missions. To this day, both American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts use the Fisher Space Pen.
