Description

Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP – the space pen that writes anywhere

The Fisher Space Pen 400 Series was the brand's first model and remains its most popular product to this day. The 400B/FSP model combines elegance and compactness in a practical brass body with a matte black finish.

The Fisher Space Pen logo is printed on the barrel. A clip is not included in the set, but can be purchased separately.

Space-proven technology

Every Fisher Space Pen is precision-assembled and hand-tested. It comes with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

Performs reliably under extreme conditions:

  • Temperatures ranging from -34Β°C to +120Β°C
  • Underwater and in zero gravity
  • At any writing angle
  • It doesn't break or leak

Design and Ink

The body is made of brass and steel. The tip of the cartridge is a tungsten carbide ball.

The ink is thixotropicβ€”it is solid in its normal state and liquefies only when writing. The refill contains a pressurized nitrogen gas cartridge that pushes the hermetically sealed ink. It writes up to three times longer than standard ink.

Compact size for everyday use

The pen takes up very little space and fits easily into a wallet or organizer. It’s also a reliable companion to keep in your car or purseβ€”it doesn’t leak in the summer or freeze in the winter.

A great gift for men and women

Fisher Space Pens are a practical and prestigious gift for men and women in a variety of professionsβ€”doctors, lawyers, military personnel, police officers, business leaders, teachers, high school seniors, and many others.

The history and technology behind them make every pen a great conversation starter.

History of the Fisher Space Pen

During NASA's early missions, astronauts used pencils. For the Gemini program in 1965, NASA purchased mechanical pencils at a cost of $128.89 eachβ€”an expense that caused public outcry.

Paul S. Fisher of Fisher Pen Co. developed a ballpoint pen suitable for the unique environment of space, without funding from NASA. The company invested about $1 million of its own funds, then patented and launched the product on the market.

In 1967, after rigorous testing, NASA equipped the astronauts of the Apollo program with these pens. About 400 were purchased at a price of $6 each.

In February 1969, the Soviet Union also purchased 100 Fisher pens and 1,000 refills for use on Soyuz spaceflights. To this day, both American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts continue to use these pens.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP different from ordinary pens?

The Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP uses a thixotropic ink refill and a pressurized nitrogen gas cartridge. This allows it to write at extreme temperatures ranging from -34Β°C to +120Β°C, underwater, in zero gravity, and at any angle. Ordinary pens rely on gravity and, under adverse conditions, stop writing or leak. The Fisher Space Pen is specifically designed to overcome these limitations. The ink is hermetically sealed and does not dry out. It writes up to three times longer than standard ink.

What materials is the Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP made of?

The body of the Model 400B/FSP is made of brass with a matte black finish. The construction also includes steel. The tip of the refill is a tungsten carbide ballβ€”a material known for its exceptional hardness and durability. The combination of these materials ensures a long service life for the pen even with intensive daily use.

Does the Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP come with a clip?

No, the clip is not included in the standard package for the 400B/FSP model. It can be purchased separately. The set includes the pen itself and a plastic gift box. The pen is compact enough to fit in a wallet or organizer even without the clip.

What type of refill does the Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP use, and can it be replaced?

This model comes with an SPR4 refill containing black ink and featuring a medium line width. The refill is replaceable, and the pen is compatible with all Fisher Space Pen PR refills. This means you can choose a different ink color or line width the next time you replace the refill. The refill contains a nitrogen gas cartridge that maintains constant pressure on the ink.

What warranty is offered for Fisher Space Pen pens?

Every Fisher Space Pen is precision-assembled and hand-tested before it leaves the production line. The brand offers a lifetime warranty against all manufacturing defects. This is one of the product’s key advantages and a testament to its quality craftsmanship. In the event of a manufacturing defect, the pen will be replaced or repaired by the manufacturer.

Is the Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP a good gift?

The Fisher Space Pen 400B/FSP is an excellent gift choice for a man or a woman. The pen is practical, durable, and has an interesting history tied to the space programs of NASA and the USSR. It’s suitable for people in a variety of professionsβ€”doctors, lawyers, military personnel, police officers, business leaders, teachers, and high school seniors. It comes in a plastic gift box, making it ready to give as a gift right after you receive it. At Dulotec.COM, you’ll find this pen at a great price.

Has the Fisher Space Pen been used in actual space missions?

Yes. After rigorous testing, NASA equipped the Apollo program astronauts with Fisher Space Pens in 1967. Approximately 400 pens were purchased at a price of $6 each. In February 1969, the Soviet Union also purchased 100 pens and 1,000 refills for use on Soyuz spaceflights. Prior to that, cosmonauts had used pencils. To this day, American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts continue to use these pens during missions.
