Description

Linder Joe Vogel Evo-X Super Edge 7 Fixed-Blade Knife – ATS-34 Steel, Orange TPE Handle

The Linder Joe Vogel Evo-X is the result of 15 years of development. Created by survival expert Joe Vogel and Swiss knife master Roman Kasse, in collaboration with the legendary German brand Linder Solingen.

The knife is manufactured entirely in Solingen, Germany—where the tradition of knife-making dates back centuries.

Blade made of Japanese ATS-34 steel

The blade is made of Japanese ATS-34 stainless steel, hardened under vacuum and cryogenically treated at -80°C. This heat treatment minimizes retained austenite and ensures:

  • Hardness 60–61 HRC (Rockwell)
  • Extremely long hold on the edge
  • Easy resharpening with standard whetstones
  • Higher corrosion and wear resistance compared to 440C

Before sharpening, the blade is ground down to zero using wet grinding—the result is a high-strength blade with a precise cutting edge. The back of the blade is specially tapered for use with a flint.

Hybrid blade geometry

Joe Vogel and Roman Kasse opted for a hybrid grind combining sabre and Scandinavian geometry:

  • Primary grind: 9° per side (slightly convex)
  • Microscope: 20° per side (slightly convex)
  • The thin section behind the cutting edge makes it easier to cut wood, game, and fibers
  • The false edge makes it easier to cast while fishing

TPE polymer handle

The handle is made of TPE thermoplastic elastomer—a next-generation material that has proven itself in German tools around the world. It provides:

  • Diamond-patterned surface for a secure grip even with wet or sweaty hands
  • A pleasant feeling of warmth even in cold weather
  • Resistance to oils, fats, and solvents
  • High wear resistance and easy cleaning

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of steel is used in the Linder Joe Vogel Evo-X knife?

The blade is made of Japanese ATS-34 stainless steel. It is heat-treated under vacuum and cryogenically treated at -80°C after hardening and before tempering. This procedure minimizes retained austenite and ensures a hardness of 60 to 61 HRC. Compared to conventional steels such as 440C, ATS-34 offers higher corrosion resistance, better wear resistance, and longer edge retention. Its composition is identical to that of the American 154CM steel.

What is the geometry of the Evo-X blade?

The knife features a hybrid grind that combines sabre and Scandinavian geometries. The main grind has a 9° angle on each side, while the micro-bevel is 20° on each side—both are slightly convex. This combination provides excellent cutting performance on wood, game, and fibers. The thin section behind the cutting bevel makes it easier to use for hunting and bushcraft. The false edge further facilitates the thrusting motion during hunting. The geometry can be modified by the user if desired.

What is the knife handle made of?

The handle is made of TPE thermoplastic elastomer—a next-generation material widely used in German tools. The surface features a diamond-patterned texture that ensures a secure grip even with wet, sweaty, or dirty hands. TPE is resistant to oils, greases, and solvents, easy to clean, and highly wear-resistant. The material feels warm even at low temperatures. The handle is orange.

What is the total length and weight of the knife?

The total length of the knife is 232 mm, of which the blade is 117 mm long and 4.8 mm thick. The knife weighs 157 grams. The genuine leather sheath adds an additional 83 grams. Its dimensions make it comfortable to carry and use in the field.

Is a cover included in the set?

Yes, the knife comes with a genuine leather sheath. The sheath weighs 83 grams. It is made of genuine leather, which ensures strength and durability during field use.

Who designed the Linder Joe Vogel Evo-X knife?

The knife was developed over a period of 15 years by survival expert Joe Vogel in collaboration with Swiss knife master Roman Kasse. It is manufactured entirely in Solingen, Germany, by the Linder brand. Roman Kasse is responsible for the special heat treatment of the ATS-34 steel, which allows its full potential to be realized. The manufacturing process and partners in Solingen remain unchanged.

Is it easy to sharpen the Evo-X blade?

Despite its hardness of 60 to 61 HRC, the blade sharpens easily with standard sharpening stones. Before sharpening, it is ground to zero via wet grinding, which ensures a strong and precise cutting edge. Cryogenic treatment at -80°C reduces the formation of burrs during sharpening. The 20° bevel angle can be adjusted by the user as needed. The thin thickness behind the edge makes this task quick and easy.
