Description

ZebraLight SC65c HI – an EDC torch with neutral light and high CRI

ZebraLight are among the few manufacturers where every detail has been thought through to the very end. The SC65c HI is a handheld EDC torch designed for people who know the difference between a cheap torch and a proper tool.

The model is fitted with a Nichia 719A LED – a flat, dome-less diode with a colour temperature of 4000K and a typical CRI of 90+. The light is neutral and renders colours realistically.

Why ZebraLight is different from mass-market torches

  • Extreme efficiency – buck-boost drivers with minimal losses and maximum energy output
  • High CRI (90+) – crucial when working on electrical installations, for accurately identifying the true colours of cables and materials
  • Constant-current driver – stable light output without flickering or dips
  • Unibody casing – machined from a single piece of high-quality aluminium with CNC precision
  • Type III Hard Anodising – approximately 2 to 3 times more wear-resistant than a standard torch
  • Potting compound – the electronics are encapsulated in thermally conductive silicone for better cooling, impact resistance and water resistance
  • Corning Gorilla Glass – durable lens cover
  • IPX8 – waterproof to 2 m for 30 minutes

Who is the SC65c HI suitable for?

  • Professional use – security, inspections, technical work
  • Hiking and camping – a balance between power and battery life
  • Hunting and fishing – good range and neutral light with realistic colours
  • EDC (everyday carry) – compact body with genuine power
  • Emergencies – reliability and long battery life in low-power modes
  • Search and navigation – stable brightness without dips

LED and optics

The torch uses a Nichia 719A LED with a flat, dome-less design.

  • Colour temperature (CCT): 4000K
  • Typical CRI: 90+
  • Colour shift: 3-step
  • Central beam (hot spot):
  • Peripheral spill: 80°
  • Orange peel textured reflector

Lighting levels and battery life

The torch offers 3 main modes – High, Medium and Low. Each mode has two sub-modes, the second of which can be further programmed.

High mode

  • H1: 660 lm – PID regulation, 2.8 hours
  • H2: 437 lm (PID, 2.9 hours) / 244 lm (PID, 3.5 hours) / 157 lm (5 hours)

Medium level

  • M1: 66 lm – 13.3 hours
  • M2: 27.5 lm (1.4 days) / 13.6 lm (2.7 days) / 4.7 lm (7.1 days)

Low level

  • L1: 1.3 lm – 18 days
  • L2: 0.33 lm (2 months) / 0.11 lm (3.7 months) / 0.03 lm (5.4 months)

Beacon and Strobe modes

  • Beacon 0.2 Hz – Low
  • Beacon 0.2 Hz – H1
  • Strobe 4 Hz – H1
  • Strobe 19 Hz – H1

Flashlight Control

The interface is simple for everyday use, but offers extensive customisation options for advanced users.

Basic operations

  • 1 click: switch to High / switch off
  • 2 clicks: switch to Medium
  • 3 clicks: switch to Beacon/Strobe mode
  • Hold (>0.6 sec): cycles through Low → Medium → High; release to select the desired level

Advanced operations

  • Double-click: switch between the two sub-levels of the current mode (the selection is retained even when the battery is replaced)
  • Hold: always cycles from Low to High, regardless of the current level

Programming the second sub-level (H2 / M2 / L2)

  • At the selected main level: 6 consecutive double-clicks
  • Each subsequent double-click switches to a different brightness level
  • 1 click: switch off and save

Battery indicator

  • From off: 4 quick clicks
  • The main LED flashes 1 to 4 times, indicating the remaining charge

Mode groups

The torch has 3 mode groups: G5 (factory setting), G6 and G7.

  • 5 clicks from OFF: G5
  • 6 clicks from OFF: G6
  • 7 clicks from OFF: G7

In groups G6 and G7, all levels can be programmed to any of the 12 available brightness levels. The selection is retained when the torch is switched off and when the battery is replaced.

PID thermal setting (for the three highest levels)

  • Switch off at H1, then switch back on at H1
  • Hold the button and cycle 6 times from Low to High
  • On the 7th cycle, release to select: High (+1°C, up to +5°C) / Medium (factory setting) / Low (-1°C, up to -5°C)

Reset

  • 3 consecutive series of 5 / 6 / 7 clicks – resets the respective group to factory settings

Classification of the ZebraLight series

  • SC series – handheld torches (EDC, general-purpose)
  • H series – headlamps (work, hiking)
  • HI – longer range, more focused beam
  • F / Flood – wide illumination
  • c/w (CRI) – better colour rendering, neutral light

What’s new in this version

  • New driver with improved efficiency
  • Larger and higher-quality key components
  • 0.5 mm shorter body

WARNING: This torch is designed to work only with unprotected flat-top 18650 batteries. Using other types of batteries may damage the torch and void the warranty.

Frequently asked questions

What type of battery does the ZebraLight SC65c HI use?

The torch operates exclusively with unprotected flat-top 18650 Li-ion batteries. The operating voltage is between 2.7 V and 6.0 V. It is important not to use batteries with built-in protection or with a protruding positive terminal (button-top), as this may damage the torch and void the warranty. The battery is not included in the pack.

What does CRI 90+ mean and why is it important?

CRI (Colour Rendering Index) is a measure of colour rendering. A value of 90+ means that the light renders colours very close to natural daylight. This is particularly important when working on electrical installations, where you need to distinguish the actual colours of cables. It is also useful for hunting, fishing and any activity where accurate colour perception matters. The torch uses a Nichia 719A LED with a colour temperature of 4000K, which provides a neutral and eye-friendly light.

How long does the torch last on a single charge?

The runtime depends on the selected mode. On the maximum H1 mode (660 lm), the torch runs for around 2.8 hours. At medium level M1 (66 lm) – around 13.3 hours. At low level L1 (1.3 lm) – around 18 days. The lowest programmable sub-level, L2, at 0.03 lm, provides around 5.4 months of operation. The torch automatically reduces the brightness level as the battery charge drops to prevent it from switching off suddenly.

How do you check the battery charge?

From the off state, press the button 4 times quickly. The main LED will flash between 1 and 4 times, with the number of flashes indicating the remaining charge. Four flashes mean the battery is fully charged; one flash means the charge is low. This is a handy feature that allows you to check the battery without having to switch the torch on fully.

Is the ZebraLight SC65c HI waterproof?

Yes. The torch has an IPX8 waterproof rating, which means it can withstand submersion to a depth of 2 metres for 30 minutes. The electronics are sealed with thermally conductive silicone (potting compound), which contributes to its water resistance, improved cooling and impact resistance.

How do you programme the brightness levels?

Each of the three main levels (High, Medium, Low) has two sub-levels. The second sub-level of each level can be programmed. To enter programming mode, double-click the desired level six times in succession. Each subsequent double-click cycles through a different brightness level. Press once to exit and save. In groups G6 and G7, all levels can be programmed to any of the 12 available brightness levels by double-clicking to increase by 1 level and triple-clicking to decrease by 1 level.

What’s new in this version of the SC65c HI compared to the previous one?

The new version of the SC65c HI includes three key improvements: a new, more efficient driver; larger, higher-quality key components; and a body that is 0.5 mm shorter than the previous model. These changes improve the torch’s overall efficiency and reliability without compromising its compact design.
