Description

SRM 401L-GT Folding EDC Knife

The SRM 401L-GT is a practical EDC knife with a well-thought-out design. The blade is made of 10Cr15MoV stainless steel with a combined satin and stonewash finish. It features a Scandi Grind edge and a liner-lock mechanism.

The handle is made of G10—a composite of fiberglass and resin. The material has a ribbed texture, which ensures a secure grip even with wet hands.

Key Features

  • Blade made of 10Cr15MoV steel with high corrosion resistance
  • Scandi Grind bevel for a precise cutting edge
  • Liner-lock mechanism—easy to release with just one thumb
  • G10 handle—sturdy, ribbed, and wear-resistant
  • Ambi-Clip Two-Position Clip – Change Position Without Tools
  • Built-in hard steel and phosphor bronze bearings for smooth opening
  • Cryogenic treatment of the blade for improved hardness and edge retention
  • Grinding with cooling to preserve the steel's properties

10Cr15MoV steel

This is a Chinese stainless steel with properties similar to VG-10. It contains vanadium, which provides good wear resistance and edge retention. Its high chromium and molybdenum content makes it highly corrosion-resistant. Hardness ranges from 58 to 64 HRC, depending on the heat treatment. Sharpening is of moderate difficulty.

Handle material – G10

G10 is a composite made of fiberglass and epoxy resin. The material is strong, lightweight, and wear-resistant. The grooved surface prevents the handle from slipping in the hand under any conditions.

Liner-lock locking mechanism

The liner lock is one of the most common locking mechanisms used in folding knives. A side spring on the inside of the handle locks the blade in the open position. To release the blade, simply press the spring to the side with your thumb. The knife can be closed with one hand without changing your grip.

Tool-Free Ambi Clip

The TFAC (Tool-Free Ambi Clip) allows for quick repositioning without additional tools. It is equally suitable for right- and left-handed users.

Cryogenic Treatment and Sharpening with Cooling

All SRM blades undergo cryogenic treatment after heat treatment. This improves hardness, durability, and corrosion resistance. Cryogenic sharpening preserves the steel’s metallurgical properties and ensures a sharper, longer-lasting cutting edge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of steel is used in the SRM 401L-GT?

The blade is made of 10Cr15MoV stainless steel. It is of Chinese origin and has properties similar to those of Japanese VG-10. It contains vanadium for improved wear resistance and edge retention, as well as chromium and molybdenum for high corrosion resistance. The hardness of this steel ranges from 58 to 64 HRC, depending on the heat treatment. For the 401L-GT model, it is 58–60 HRC.

What is a liner lock, and how is it used?

The liner-lock is one of the most common locking mechanisms used in folding knives. It consists of a side spring built into the handle. When the blade is fully open, the spring slides inward and locks it securely in place. To close the knife, press the spring to the side with your thumb, then fold the blade back into the handle. This can be done with one hand without changing your grip—which is convenient when your other hand is occupied.

What is G10 material, and why is it used for handles?

G10 is a composite material made up of layers of fiberglass saturated with epoxy resin. It is extremely strong, lightweight, and wear-resistant. Its textured surface ensures a secure grip even with wet or greasy hands. The material does not absorb moisture and ranks among the most durable handle materials on the market. That is why it is the preferred choice for knives intended for everyday use and more demanding conditions.

What is cryogenic treatment, and how does it affect the blade?

Cryogenic treatment is a specialized manufacturing process in which the metal is cooled to very low temperatures following standard heat treatment. At SRM, all blades undergo this treatment. The result is improved hardness, greater durability, and enhanced corrosion resistance. The blade retains its cutting edge longer compared to untreated steels. Combined with sharpening with cooling, this ensures consistent performance characteristics.

What is the TFAC clip, and who is it suitable for?

TFAC stands for Tool-Free Ambi Clip—a clip whose position can be adjusted without tools. The user simply reposition the clip by hand, depending on their preference. It has two positions, making it equally suitable for right- and left-handed users. This feature is especially convenient when switching carrying positions on the go. The SRM 401L-GT is equipped with exactly this type of clip.

What types of bearings are used in the SRM 401L-GT, and what are their benefits?

The knife's hinge incorporates bearings made of hardened steel and hardened phosphor bronze. They ensure smooth and easy opening of the blade with minimal effort. In addition to improved functionality, the bearings keep the blade properly centered relative to the handle. This reduces lateral movement and extends the life of the mechanism. The combination of the two materials was chosen for their hardness and wear resistance.

What is the Scandi Grind, and what is it suitable for?

The Scandi Grind is a type of blade bevel in which the grinding starts relatively low and reaches the cutting edge at a constant angle. The result is a flat, wide bevel without an additional secondary bevel. This type of bevel ensures good cutting precision and relatively easy sharpening. On the SRM 401L-GT, the bevel is combined with a satin finish and Stonewash, which enhances the aesthetics and durability of the surface.
