Description

SRM 106M-GW Folding Knife from the Dome Collection – Slip Joint EDC Knife

The SRM Dome collection is designed specifically for everyday carry. The knives in this series combine modern craftsmanship with classic functionality in a compact and practical design.

The SRM 106M-GW is a folding slip-joint knife—it has no locking mechanism, but features a well-balanced spring that ensures reliable and predictable performance.

14C28N Steel Blade—Durability and Easy Maintenance

The blade has a drop-point shape and is made of 14C28N steel from Sandvik—a Swedish manufacturer with a proven track record of quality. This stainless steel offers excellent corrosion resistance, good hardness, and is easy to sharpen.

The hardness ranges from 59 to 61 HRC, ensuring a durable and sharp cutting edge during daily use. All SRM blades undergo cryogenic treatment and sharpening with cooling to better maintain their sharpness.

G10 handle—a sturdy and secure grip

The handle is made of G10—a composite of fiberglass and resin. The material has a grooved surface, which prevents slipping even in wet conditions.

G10 is one of the most durable materials for knife handles—lightweight, strong, and wear-resistant.

Slip Joint Mechanism—A Classic with Practicality

The slip joint mechanism uses a tension spring that holds the blade in the open or closed position without a lock. The blade is opened using a thumb stud or a classic fingernail notch.

Care must be taken when closing the knife—the blade is not locked and may fold if pressure is applied incorrectly. Many models with this mechanism feature a half-lock for added safety.

Bronze washers—smooth and stable operation

The blade rotates on bronze bushings, which provide a larger contact area compared to ball bearings. This allows for a wider blade and ensures smooth opening.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the "Slip Joint" mechanism mean in a folding knife?

A slip joint is a mechanism found in folding knives in which the blade is held in the open or closed position by a tensioned spring, without a locking element. When opening the knife, the spring’s tension is overcome by a notch or pin on the blade. The blade is not locked in the open position, so pressure in the direction of closing should be avoided during use. Many models with this mechanism feature a half-stop for added safety. The Slip Joint is a traditional mechanism that has been used in classic pocket knives for decades.

What is 14C28N steel, and why is it used in EDC knives?

14C28N steel is a stainless steel produced by the Swedish company Sandvik. It is a mid-range steel characterized by excellent corrosion resistance, good hardness, and ease of sharpening. The hardness of the SRM 106M-GW knife ranges from 59 to 61 HRC, ensuring a long-lasting cutting edge. It is suitable for everyday use, as it does not require specialized maintenance equipment. It sharpens easily with conventional sharpening tools and retains its sharpness under normal use.

Why is G10 a preferred material for knife handles?

G10 is a composite material made of fiberglass and resin. It is extremely durable, lightweight, and wear-resistant. The grooved finish on the handle prevents slipping when your hands are wet or in adverse conditions. The material does not absorb moisture and does not warp due to temperature changes. Because of these qualities, G10 is one of the most popular materials used in the manufacture of knives for everyday and active use.

What is the difference between bronze washers and ball bearings in folding knives?

Bronze bushings have a larger contact area compared to ball bearings. This allows them to support a wider and heavier blade. They ensure smooth opening, although not as fast or as effortless as with ball bearings. Under normal use, bronze washers are very reliable and require minimal maintenance. They are a traditional solution used in high-quality folding knives.

What is the cryogenic treatment of SRM blades?

Cryogenic treatment is a specialized manufacturing process in which the blade is exposed to extremely low temperatures following standard heat treatment. With SRM, this procedure is combined with a gentle heat treatment. The result is improved edge retention, increased hardness, and better corrosion resistance. The cryogenic sharpening process further preserves the steel’s hardness and ensures a more durable cutting edge. These processes improve the blade’s long-term performance during daily use.

What types of tasks is the SRM 106M-GW knife suitable for?

The SRM 106M-GW knife is designed for everyday use—opening packages, boxes, and envelopes, as well as small household tasks and repairs. It’s also suitable for outdoor activities such as gardening, picnics, and hiking. Its compact size and light weight of 61 grams make it comfortable to carry every day. The slip joint mechanism makes it suitable even in environments where knives with locking mechanisms are restricted. A functional and practical choice for people looking for a reliable EDC knife.

How do you open and close a knife with a slip joint mechanism?

The blade of the SRM 106M-GW can be opened in two ways—using a thumb pin or the classic fingernail notch. When opening, you must overcome the spring tension; once open, the spring holds the blade in the open position. To close it, carefully fold the blade, keeping your fingers away from the cutting edge. Since the blade is not locked, care must be taken to avoid unexpected pressure in the closing direction while in use. Proper and careful handling is essential for all knives with a slip joint mechanism.
