SRM 106M-GK Folding Knife – EDC knife with a slip joint mechanism

The SRM Dome collection offers practical slip-joint folding knives designed specifically for everyday carry. They combine modern craftsmanship with classic functionality.

The blade is a drop-point style, made of 14C28N steel with a hardness of 59–61 HRC. It offers excellent cutting edge durability, corrosion resistance, and is easy to sharpen.

Knife Handle and Opening Mechanism

The handle is made of textured G10—a composite of fiberglass and resin. The material is durable, wear-resistant, and grooved for a secure grip.

The knife can be opened with one or two hands—using a thumb stud or a classic fingernail notch. The motion is smooth, thanks to the bronze washers.

What is it suitable for?

  • Opening Packages and Boxes
  • Small, everyday tasks
  • Activities in the Garden
  • Picnics and Hikes

Manufacturing Technology

All SRM blades undergo cryogenic treatment to better retain their sharpness. The cryogenic sharpening process preserves the hardness and properties of the cutting edge.

Slip Joint Mechanism

A simple design featuring a tension spring that holds the blade in the closed position. To open it, the spring tension is released using a tab or pin. The blade is held open by a return spring, without locking.

Use with caution—applying the wrong amount of pressure can cause the blade to close unexpectedly. Many modern models with this mechanism feature a half-stop for added safety. Close the blade carefully, using your fingers to control the movement.

Sandvik 14C28N Steel

14C28N steel, manufactured by the Swedish company Sandvik, is a mid-range stainless steel. It offers excellent hardness and corrosion resistance and can be sharpened to an exceptionally fine edge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the "Slip Joint" mechanism mean in a folding knife?

A slip joint is a simple mechanism in which a tensioned spring holds the blade in the closed position. To open it, you must overcome the spring’s tension using a thumb stud or pin. The blade does not lock in the open position but is held open by a return spring. Therefore, care must be taken during use to prevent the blade from closing unexpectedly. Many modern Slip Joint models feature a half-lock mechanism for added safety. Historically, traditional pocket knives have used precisely this type of mechanism.

What is 14C28N steel, and what is it used for?

14C28N steel is a stainless steel produced by the Swedish company Sandvik. It is a mid-range steel that offers excellent hardness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. The hardness of the SRM 106M-GK is 59–61 HRC, making it hard enough for everyday tasks. It can be sharpened to an exceptionally sharp edge. It is suitable for a wide range of everyday needs without requiring any special maintenance.

What are the advantages of G10 as a handle material?

G10 is a composite material made from fiberglass and resin. It is extremely strong, wear-resistant, and lightweight. The grooved finish on the handle prevents it from slipping in your hand, even in wet conditions. The material is flexible and ranks among the most durable on the market. It is not significantly affected by moisture or temperature changes, making it a practical choice for an EDC knife.

What are bronze washers, and how do they affect the knife's performance?

Bronze washers are the components on which the blade rests when opening and closing. Compared to ball bearings, they have a larger contact area and can support a wider blade. They ensure smooth opening, though not quite as smooth as with ball bearings. For a Slip Joint-type EDC knife, this is a perfectly adequate and reliable solution.

What is cryogenic treatment, and how does it affect the blade?

Cryogenic treatment is a specialized heat treatment process applied to SRM blades following standard heat treatment. The goal is to improve edge retention and increase durability. The result is a blade that is hard, corrosion-resistant, and has a long-lasting cutting edge. Cryogenic hardening further preserves the steel’s hardness during the manufacturing process.

What types of activities is the SRM 106M-GK suitable for?

The SRM 106M-GK knife is designed for everyday carry and use. It is suitable for opening packages and boxes, small household and craft tasks, gardening, picnics, and light hikes. The slip joint mechanism also makes it suitable for environments where locking mechanisms are restricted. Its compact size and weight of 61 grams make it comfortable to carry every day.

How do you safely open and close a knife with a slip joint mechanism?

The SRM 106M-GK knife can be opened with one or two hands using the thumb stud or the fingernail notch. When opening, the spring tension is overcome, and the blade is held in the open position by the return spring. When closing, carefully fold the blade, keeping your fingers out of its path. Applying pressure in the wrong direction can cause the blade to close unexpectedly, so caution is advised with every use.
