For hunting, you generally need a flashlight with a long-range beam that doesn’t require a particularly high lumen output—about 1,000 lumens are sufficient with a well-focused beam. 3. Range and Beam Focus

A hunting flashlight must provide a light beam with a range of at least 300 meters. Due to the nature of the measurement, to ensure good visibility at 300 meters, the flashlight should have an ANSI-rated beam distance of at least 600 meters; 900 meters or more is even better. This way, you can be sure that at 300 meters, there will be enough light for you to see clearly.

• Green light—it is easily perceived by the human eye and is less noticeable to animals.
