A battery with or without protection—what's the difference?

Batteries with built-in protection contain a small circuit board in the anode or cathode. It protects the cell from overcharging, over-discharging, and excessive current—in case of danger, the protection system automatically shuts off.

These protected batteries are slightly longer and wider than standard ones. They are suitable for flashlights with mechanical reverse-insertion protection—for example, models from Acebeam, Olight, Fenix, Nitecore, Armytec, and similar brands.

They are not suitable for flashlights such as Zebralight and Dulotec, which are designed for unprotected batteries. Some flashlights require a higher current, which protected batteries cannot provide.
