Why the Fisher Space Pen writes where others fail
Each pen is precision-assembled and hand-tested. The refill contains a pressurised nitrogen cartridge which forces out the special thixotropic ink β solid at rest, it liquefies when writing.
- It writes underwater and in other liquids
- It works in zero gravity and at any angle
- Withstands temperatures from -34Β°C to +120Β°C
- Does not leak or run out
- Writes up to three times longer than standard ink
- Compact β fits easily into a wallet or organiser
- Clip for attaching to a pocket or rucksack
The perfect gift for men and women
Fisher Space Pens are practical, durable and a pleasure to use. They are suitable for teachers, doctors, lawyers, military personnel, police officers, business leaders and A-level students.
They also fit neatly in your car or everyday bag β they donβt leak in summer or freeze in winter.
The history of the Fisher Space Pen β from NASA to orbit
During the early NASA missions, astronauts used pencils to write. For the Gemini programme in 1965, 34 mechanical pencils were purchased at a total cost of $4,382.50 β a price that drew serious public criticism.
Paul S. Fisher of Fisher Pen Co. developed a pen that worked in space β without funding from NASA and using around $1 million of his own investment. He patented the product and offered it to the agency.
In 1967, following rigorous testing, NASA equipped the astronauts of the Apollo programme with these pens. Around 400 were purchased at a price of $6 each. In February 1969, the Soviet Union also purchased 100 Fisher pens and 1,000 refills for the Soyuz missions β previously, their cosmonauts had written with pencils.
To this day, American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts use Fisher pens in orbit.
