Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the D2 steel in the SRM 7228-GI knife so special?
D2 is a tool steel with a high hardness of 59–61 HRC. Its composition includes chromium, carbon, vanadium, and manganese. This combination provides excellent wear resistance and is particularly well-suited for abrasive cutting. Compared to many other steels in this price range, D2 retains its sharpness significantly longer. That is precisely why it is the preferred choice for knives intended for everyday and heavier use.
What is the Ambi-Lock mechanism on the SRM 7228-GI?
Ambi-Lock is a mechanism for locking the blade along its axis. It ensures a stable and reliable lock in the open position. The Mono-Chassis Liner system further reinforces the construction and contributes to the knife’s smooth and long-lasting performance. The mechanism is suitable for use with either hand, making it versatile and convenient in a variety of situations.
Can the Ambi-Clip be adjusted without tools?
Yes. The Ambi-Clip is designed so that its position can be adjusted without any tools. This is especially convenient for everyday use, when quickly adjusting to different carrying positions is important. The clip fits snugly, ensuring a stable and discreet way to carry the knife.
Why is a G10 handle an advantage for a folding knife?
G10 is a composite of fiberglass and resin. The material is extremely strong and resistant to moisture and mechanical wear. The textured finish prevents slipping even with wet or greasy hands. G10 ranks among the most durable materials for knife handles and retains its shape and quality even with prolonged use.
What are the dimensions and weight of the SRM 7228-GI?
The knife has a total length of 168 mm and a blade length of 69 mm. The blade is 3.1 mm thick, and the knife weighs 73 grams. These dimensions make it compact and easy to carry every day, without being too small for more serious tasks.
What is the SRM 7228-GI knife suitable for?
The model is designed as an EDC knife—intended for everyday use. The combination of D2 steel and a G10 handle makes it suitable for a wide range of tasks—from everyday use to rougher outdoor applications. Its compact size and adjustable clip make it easy to carry at all times.
What are the phosphor bronze washers in the SRM 7228-GI knife?
The phosphor-bronze washers are positioned around the blade’s pivot and ensure smooth and quiet opening. They reduce friction between the blade and the handle, which contributes to a longer service life for the mechanism. These washers are a hallmark of higher-quality folding knives and are valued for their reliability during prolonged use.
